New Guys Formby win the M&D League

Formby Swimming Club is delighted to be Champions of the Merseyside & District League Division 3 at the first time of asking. The fourth and final gala of the league season ended with another convincing victory for the club, winning the gala itself by 35 points and meaning that the club win the league by at our estimation a clear 85 points. Final standings in the league were Formby (1) 741 points, Runcorn (2) 656 points, Warrington (3) 645 Points, Bridgefield (4) 223 Points.

The club received its first ever trophies the other week (….month!). These are two superb awards from the Development Gala Series held at Knowsley Pool during 2014. These are for 2nd place in the Relays Overall and for 4th Place (out of 8) in the Overall Galas. Bearing in mind the number of speeding points we picked up these trophies represent some great awards.

We would like to thank those who attended the club’s second AGM last Thursday evening (26th). There were several upbeat reports from committee members and positive comments were received from non-committee attendees. The committee received no new nominations this year and votes were taken to retain the existing committee membership and positions. We would like to thank those who attended for coming along. The three named positions are therefore Steve Birtles (Secretary), Dave Colbourne (Treasurer) and Kevin Riley (Chairman).

Formby remain convincingly on top of the M&D League Division 3 after the third of four league galas. The historic event - the first ever ASA registered Gala held at Formby Pool, went smoothly with Formby running out convincing winners with 172 points from the 50 races. Closest rivals Runcorn came second with 160 points and pushed us all the way to the end, with Warrington and Bridgefield putting in commendable performances too.

Another great result sees Formby remain top of the league….

Another great gala saw Formby Swimming Club remain top of the Merseyside and District Swimming League Division 3 with a series of fantastic swims. This was despite being pipped to first place by one point by Runcorn in an exciting Gala hosted by Bridgefield Swimming Club at Huyton Leisure Centre. The team spirit was fantastic throughout and Formby looked strong the whole way through, with the standings going back and forward from race to race, but ending with Formby on 159 points and Runcorn 160.
